Members of the Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal have urged the government to extend relaxation on e-way bill on merchandise for another year, which concluded today. The state government had increased the intrastate e-way bill limit for goods from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh for an year.

Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal president Piara Lal Seth said the government allowed the e-way bill limit to continue on certain commodities, including iron, non-furnace metals, wood, cement, plastic granules, yarn and edible oil.

He demanded that relaxation must be allowed on other commodities so that sales may pick up ahead of the forthcoming festive season.

PPBM general secretary Sameer Jain said doubling the limit of goods for intrastate movement under clause 138 (14) of the GST Act would offer convenient monility to traders within the state.

He said the e-way bill process consumed a long time and in case of snag and server down, delay is unpredictable. “For goods worth Rs 50,000, the process is cumbersome as over the years inflation has made possible many merchandise worth Rs 50,000 to carry even in bags,” he added.
