Three, including girl, booked for blackmailing retd employee

AMRITSAR: The police have booked three persons including a girl who posed as journalists for blackmailing and extorting money from a retired District Public Relations Office employee Harparminder Singh.

The police have booked three persons including a girl who posed as journalists for blackmailing and extorting money from a retired District Public Relations Office employee Harparminder Singh. The accused made a video and uploaded it on internet as the victim refused to cough up money.

Those booked have been identified as Charanjit Singh of New Modern Colony, Harpal Singh of Sharnjit Nagar, Tarn Taran Road and a girl. Charanjit died several months ago. A case under Sections 384, 120-B IPC and Section 67 of IT Act has been registered against the trio.

The victim used to work as steno in the DPRO office. He said that after retiring from the department he got pension and added that the accused knew about this retirement benefits.

He said that the girl urged him to assist in finding a job and took him to visit someone. However, the girl and the accused started blackmailing him on the basis of video.

ACP Crime Tejbir Singh said that a case has been registered against the accused after preliminary probe.
