Subordinate staff stage protest, want services to be regularised

The Punjab Pensioners Union (PPU) and the Punjab Subordinate Service Federation on Wednesday burnt an effigy of the state government for ignoring the demands of employees.

Members of both organisations gathered at Kachehri Chowk, raising slogans against the Capt Amarinder Singh government.

Among others, PPU leader Darshan Singh Chhina and Satpal Gupta addressed the agitators. They raised various demands of pensioners and employees, including regularisation of contractual staff, daily wagers under different agencies, implementation of the sixth pay commission recommendation in a time-bound manner and release of installments of dearness allowance.

In addition, mid-day meal, ASHA, MGNREGA and anganwadi workers must be given a minimum salary of Rs 18,000 per month, they said. They also demanded that pension scheme applicable before 2004 must be revived and implemented.
