As the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences earlier last year had took the decision to shift examination centres of medical students from outside the respective colleges, the students of Government Medical College are questioning the utility of the decision.

The examination centre of Government Medical College students is at Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical education and Research (SGRDI), Vallah. The examination centre of SGRDI students has been shifted to the Government Medical College here.

A GMC student said, “The SGRDI institute has a bus to ferry the students to the centre on examinations days. Our college is run by the state government and it does not have any bus for the purpose. We have to arrange for the conveyance on our own.” He said last year, a student had met with an accident.

The students said before the implementation of such decisions, the university and the government should also ensure the safety of students. “For years, the exams were held at the respective colleges. Now, out of the blue, the university had taken the decision to shift the examination centres last year,” he said.

The students demanded that the government provide a bus for the transportation of students to the examination centres.
