Amritsar, July 27

Residents can now visit the General Post Office to get their Aadhaar cards rectified rather than going around the city to get the corrections made.

One can update, correct or modify his or her personal details such as name, address, Ward No., mobile phone number through the Head Post Office in the city. Special staff have been trained for the implementation of the project by the Postal Department.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has entered into an memorandum of understanding (MOU) with India Post to allow corrections, modifications of the mandatory proof.

Senior officials of the post office feel that it will help the common man to save money and a systematised workflow will be followed during the process. The facility shall also ensure hassle-free working for residents.

Makhan Singh, Senior Superintendent, post office, Amritsar division, said, “The facility will be available at a lower cost compared to private agents. At present, such agents charge about Rs 300. When the system is introduced, the charges will come to only Rs 25-30. Also the fee is fixed. There is no fluctuation in the fee. The work will begin by next month. The arrangements are in their final phase.”

According to postal employees, this service will be a boon for residents.
