Amritsar: A quack allegedly raped a woman who had come to him for taking medicines in Jandiala Guru. The accused has been identified as Sunny. The victim told the police that she was suffering from toothache so she went to Sunny's house to take medicines where he raped her. According to her, her son was working nearby who rushed to Sunny's house after hearing her screams, so the accused fled. The police have registered a case against Sunny.

BJP elevates Mahajan

Amritsar: State BJP president Shwait Malik appointed his close aide Rajesh Mahajan, aka Pappu Mahajan, as the new district BJP vice-president on Tuesday. Rajesh Honey, district president of the BJP, said the appointment was made keeping in view the heightened political engagements in future. Mahajan said he would carry out the responsibility given to him by the party.

Man found murdered

Amritsar: A man was found murdered in a flood drain near Ajaibwali village in Kathunagal on Monday. The body is yet to be identified. ASI Ajit Singh said he was on patrolling duty when the police were apprised about the body. There were several injury marks on the body. The ASI said the victim might have been murdered somewhere else and dumped there. A case has been registered and the body has been kept at the Civil Hospital for 72 hours for identification, following which postmortem examination will be conducted.

Drugs, firearms seized

Tarn Taran: A youth and his mother have been booked for possessing drugs and firearms. Sooraj Sharma and Rekha Sharma of Malia Khurd village were on a bike when they tried to flee after coming across a police checkpoint near Bhullar village. Sooraj took a sharp turn so Rekha lost her balance and fell from the bike. The police searched her belongings and found her possessing 270 gram of heroin, a country made pistol and six cartridges. Rekha was arrested but Sooraj managed to flee. They have been booked under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act by Sadar police.

Foetus found in Kang village

Tarn Taran: The Sadar police found a female foetus on the outskirts of Kang village, 12 km from here, on Tuesday. A case under Sections 315 of the 318 IPC has been registered against the unknown woman. The information was given to the police by a villager, Pargat Singh.
