SGPC meeting on Jan 23

Amritsar: The SGPC has convened a meeting of its officials and members from the Majha region here on January 23 to chalk out programmes to celebrate the 550th Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev. Gobind Singh Longowal, SGPC president, will chair the meeting to be attended by Shiromani Committee members, managers of gurdwaras, administrative officials of local committees, parcharaks and Sikh religious societies. Meanwhile, SGPC secretary Manjit Singh Cheema Baath today felicitated Jasbir Singh for his efforts to spread Sikhism in Australia. He elaborated achievements of Sikhs in different fields in Australia. TNS

Woman stabbed  to death

Tarn Taran: A 35-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her brother-in-law (husband’s younger brother) in Margindpur village in Bhikhiwind, 35 km from here, on Friday evening. The victim has been identified as Raman Kaur. The accused has been identified as Sahib Singh. The police said he wanted to grab the property of his brother Resham Singh, who died around two years ago. Besides, he also had a malafide intension towards her, the police added. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered. The accused is yet to be arrested, said Sub-Inspector Kashmir Singh, SHO of the Bhikhiwind police station. OC

Kavi darbaar organised

Amritsar: The Punjabi Sahitya Sangam held a ‘kavi darbaar’ at the Sohan Singh Josh District Library at Rani Ka Bagh on Saturday. A number of people attended the event. Poets from the city participated in the ‘kavi darbaar’. Sarabjhjit Singh Sandhu, president of the Punjabi Sahitya Sangam, thanked poets for showing enthusiasm to recite their poems at the event. Librarian Prabhjot Kaur said, “This is an effort to make the district library a public place to hold such events.” TNS

Online fee payment 

The Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) on Saturday introduced new online administration system for its schools to facilitate parents with online fee payment. CKD honorary secretary Narinder Singh Khurana said 22 CKD schools had been equipped with this online fee payment facility and rest of the schools would be covered soon. TNS 

IPAMA holds meet

The Indian Printing Packaging and Allied Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (IPAMA) held its second promotional meet on Saturday. Vinay Kumar Gupta, an office-bearer of the IPAMA, said the association signed an agreement with PHD Chamber of Commerce to invite international trade visitors. Other office-bearers Tilak Raj Mahajan and Iqbal Singh informed that the association would hold its six-day 14th edition of Printpack India International Exhibition in Noida from February 1. TNS
