Snatching case cracked, 3 held

The city police on Thursday claimed to have cracked a snatching case in which five auto-rickshaw-borne persons snatched purse from a passenger on Sunday. Arjun Kumar Tuli, a resident of Dashmesh Nagar, Kot Khalsa, had stated to the police that on Sunday evening, he was going to railway station to board a train for Srinagar.

When he reached near Liberty market, five persons travelling on an auto-rickshaw pulled him inside the three-wheeler and snatched his purse by threatening him with weapons. Later, they threw him outside the auto and fled towards Queens Road side.

Police officials, in a press conference, on Thursday said during probe, the police zeroed in on Sikander Kumar of Hari Ram Di Bagichi and Jagdeep Singh of Mahal village. The police nabbed them and impounded the auto-rickshaw used in the crime. They also recovered a sharp weapon from their possession. 

He said raids were on to nab the remaining suspects in the case. In another case, the police have nabbed Anoop Singh of New Partap Nagar area for snatching. He was brought on production warrant from Amritsar Central Jail.  According to police authorities, he was wanted in two snatching incidents that occurred in the holy city in September and October this year. During interrogation, the police have recovered three gold chains from his possession.
