Snatcher held with mobile phones; 5 others booked

The city police have booked five snatchers in two separate instances while another snatcher was nabbed by the CIA staff with four snatched mobile phones and a sharp weapon.

The arrested accused was identified as Rahul Kumar of the Islamabad area. He was nabbed by the CIA staff during patrolling in the area.

Harjinder Singh of Sur Singh village (Tarn Taran), Gurmeet Singh of Bhakna village, Kulwinder Singh of Fakir Singh Colony, Amritpal Singh of Baba Jiwan Singh Colony and Sunil of the Bharariwal area had been booked in the two snatching incidents.

The police authorities said Harjinder and Gurmeet were booked following a complaint submitted by Vijay Kumar Yadav who stated that he was standing outside Umang Juice Bar when the accused forcibly snatched his mobile phone. They were riding a motorcycle (bearing registration No. PB-02-AT-1361).

The other three accused were booked following a tip-off, the police said.

They said they had specific inputs that the accused robbed people on a sharp weapon point in the past.

Two more snatching incidents reported

Meanwhile, the city also witnessed two more snatching incidents. In the first incident, a tourist, Anil Ponder, who along with his wife had come to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple, were robbed.

They were going towards Kesar Da Dhaba on a rickshaw when unidentified persons snatched his wife’s purse containing Rs 80,000 in cash and an expensive mobile phone.

Mobile phone snatched

In another incident, unknown persons snatched a mobile phone of a local resident, Raj Kumar, near Maharaja Palace.
