The Cabinet Minister, Navjot Singh Sidhu, inaugurated a Solid Waste Management Programme at Patti, 25 Km from here, on Saturday. Patti MLA Harminder Singh Gill was also present on the occasion.

Sidhu said the programme would be initiated in all Municipal Corporations and Municipal Councils under the ‘Swachh Bharat’ initiative.

Sidhu took a serious note of acute shortage of doctors in hospitals. The minister said he had come to know that government schools were also facing a shortage of teachers in the district, especially in the border areas. He added that the needful would be done soon for the welfare of the public.

Sidhu also released a grant to the tune of Rs 2 crore for four memorial gates to be constructed on the four sides of Patti .

The Deputy Commissioner, Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, said dustbins were being distributed to every home in Patti so as to ease the garbage collection. Patti SDM Surinder Singh was also present on the occasion.

The minister also presided over a meeting of officials to review the developmental works here, in which Dr Dharambir Agnihotri, Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, Harminder Singh Gill, all MLAs, besides official of various departments were present.
