Shimla natives robbed, 2 thieves held in another instance

A Shimla resident, Sandeep Upadhyaya, and his wife were robbed by unidentified robbers here yesterday evening when they were going towards the local railway station. They werereturning to their hotel after paying obeisance at Golden Temple.

They were travelling on a battery-operated rickshaw while his wife was sitting at a corner. The motorcycle- borne persons came from behind and snatched her purse containing Rs 20,000 cash, a Tablet, a Mangalsutra, three mobile phones, ATM cards, etc. The police have registered a case under Section 379-B, IPC, in this regard.

Nirmal Singh, the investigating officer, said the police had looked for CCTV cameras in the area, but they were found dysfunctional.

In another snatching incident, two unknown persons snatched the purse of Priyanka Sandhu when she along with her husband was going towards Chheharta on her schooter. Harkanwaljit said when they reached near Guru Nanak Dev University, two unknown persons came from behind on a motorcycle and snatched her purse containing ATM cards, a mobile phone, wrist watches and some cash. A case was registered with the Cantonment police station here.

Meanwhile, the Majitha road police have arrested two snatchers identified as Parminder Singh of Majitha and Kulwinder Singh of Bhatti Ludhar village. The police recovered a stolen bike and six mobile phones from their possession. Further investigations were under progress.
