Setback for AAP as 60 leaders join Cong

In a major jolt to AAP, its several leaders, including, Majha media in-charge Gurbhej Singh, today joined the Congress in the presence of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Capt Amarinder Singh.

Gurbhej and the other leaders joined during a press conference here today.

Later, a press release issued here today stated that about 60 leaders of AAP working at the grass-roots level joined the Congress.

It stated that Asha Kumari, state in-charge, Congress affairs; Navjot Singh Sidhu and Congress Lok Sabha by-poll candidate Gurjeet Singh Aujla welcomed them on joining the party.

Notable among those who joined the Congress from AAP were state joint secretary Navdeep Singh Vichhoya, North Assembly constituency in-charge Ajitpal Sharma, Jyoti Thakur, women’s wing sector in-charge Bhawna and Harinder Singh Nijampura.

Navdeep said AAP deserted all those promises on which it arrived in the state. Its leaders had promised to field ordinary people as candidates in the elections. However, a majority of the candidates fielded were from affluent families.

He said it gave an impression that what started as a grand movement to provide platform to the common man was eventually hijacked by the affluent lot.

He alleged that in the coming days he would prove that AAP sold the poll ticket.

Navdeep said after the the Assembly elections, AAP leaders would return to Delhi while Congress leaders would be available here only.
