A vigilance team of the Local Bodies Department has collected samples of material being used in the construction of septic tanks in the Guru Amar Das Avenue locality on Airport Road here today.

The move has been initiated after a video clip showing poor quality work being done in the area went viral on social networking sites.

The team also asked contractors to demolish covers of a few tanks built in the area which were not at the correct level. The team also asked the company engaged in the work to employ qualified and experienced masons for the job.

The team included Local Bodies Department’s Chief Vigilance Officer Anil Kansal and other officials. Local officials of the Water Supply and Sewerage Board, XEN Anil Tandon, SDO Gurpal Singh and JE Rajiv Kumar were among those others present.

SDO Gurpal Singh said samples of the material (sand and cement mixture used in constructing walls of the tanks) were taken after removing their covers.

After the video went viral, the tanks were hurriedly covered with cemented slabs.

He said action would be initiated against the company if it was found that poor quality mixture was used in the construction work.
