Stressing upon the remedial measures and the role of the government, media, consumer courts and public in improving the doctor-patient relationship, an awareness seminar was organised at the art gallery auditorium here today. Prominent medical professionals from the city participated in the session.

Talking about the negligence in medical practice and hospital management, Dr Kuldip Singh Arora, chairman, Amritsar Nursing Home Cell, said, “Most of the times, doctors have to  face the conflict of treating their patients and also bearing the cost of running a hospital. One has to ensure accountability on both fronts and any negligence should be rooted out immediately.”

Dr Harinderpal Singh, medical superintendent, Fortis Escorts Hospital, said heavy expenditure was involved in the establishment and management of high end hospitals. “The government, instead of discouraging private hospitals, should establish government hospitals of equal standards.”
