Schools to get NCERT books before new session

All schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) may not get an excuse for not prescribing books of the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT). The CBSE has made all NCRET books available before the start of new session. Schools can now order books online as per requirement.

A large number of CBSE affiliated schools used to prescribe books of private publishers to make money. Managements of schools gave an excuse that the NCERT books were not available at start of academic season.

As per the circulation, NCERT text books will be made available to all CBSE affiliated schools for the academic session 2017-18 and orders in this regard can be placed online.

The decision was taken in a review meeting chaired by the Minister of Human Resources Development. Officials of the CBSE stated that the NCERT would be printing and supplying text books in adequate numbers for all classes. The CBSE has created a link on its official website for raising online order for NCERT text books. As per the circular, the link for online order will be available until February 22.

Meanwhile the Punjab Parents Association has welcomed the CBSE move. An office-bearer of the Punjab Parents Association, MK Sharma, said, “Now the government has enacted the Fee Regulatory Act. Schools have to follow guidelines of the CBSE. Earlier, there was no law to check irregularities of schools. Now, school managements can be sued for disobeying instructions of the board.”

Schools will not be able to overcharge for books as their prices are available online.
