Amritsar, May 18

The Vigilance Bureau has nabbed a health employee, identified as Iqbal Singh, for corruption. He holds the charge of sanitary inspector at the Community Health Centre at Lopoke. The Vigilance has also nominated Dr Renu Bhatia, Senior Medical Officer at the CHC, in the case registered under the Corruption Act.

Vigilance SSP RK Baskhi said the role of Dr Renu Bhatia was being verified. Complainant Manjinder Singh, another sanitary inspector, said Iqbal Singh took Rs 10,000 as bribe to clear his attendance for the release of this three-month salary. He alleged that the accused took money in the name of Dr Renu Bhatia. He informed that he was posted on deputation at the Lopoke CHC and his salary generated from that very centre. He alleged Dr Renu Bhatia was not sending her attendance for the past three months for clearing his salary bill.

Vigilance officials said Iqbal Singh was arrested red-handed with taking the bribe. Preferring anonymity, a senior Vigilance official said Dr Bhatia went underground after the arrest of Iqbal Singh.
