Six-year-old Jashanpreet Singh from Jhander wakes up every day with only one particular aim in mind – to cover that 10 km distance that he has set as a target for himself.

A student of Holy Heart School, Jashanpreet’s compatriot and mentor is his grandfather, who is a former police officer. “He developed a liking for running at a tender age and has a natural talent for it. I accompany him on a cycle or motorcycle sometimes and he covers the distance of 10 km in 50 minutes,” said Jaswant Singh, his grandfather. Jashanpreet’s dedicated running has earned him attention from the village folks and he has become an inspiration for even the youth in the village.

“He takes a normal diet and also works out before his daily running routine,” informed his grandfather. Planning and training him for the future, his coach Deepak Kumar said that Jashanpreet had the capability to become a good athlete. “Along with the right skill and natural talent, he also has the right attitude.
