Rs 61 lakh recovered from power theft violators by PSPCL

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited’s (PSPCL) Chief Engineer (Border Zone), Sandeep Kumar, on Sunday said that PSPCL officials recovered Rs 61.60 lakh as fine and found as many as 451 cases of power theft in Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran during the past seven days.

Amritsar rural belt topped the three districts as PSPCL authorities found as many as 173 cases of power theft out of 3,038 connections checked in the suburban area. It recovered Rs 22.37 lakh as fine from here.

This was followed by Tarn Taran belt where authorities found 137 cases of power stealing out of 2,871 connections checked. From here, the PSCPL imposed and recovered Rs 20.33 lakh as fine.

Similarly, the Chief Engineer said, in Gurdaspur district, the officials checked as many as 1,465 connections and found 126 case of power theft. They recovered Rs 14.56 lakh from the district. In Amritsar city, the PSPCL teams raided 637 liquor vends and found 15 cases of theft and recovered Rs 4.34 lakh from them.

The Chief Engineer said, “ We have written to anti-power theft station at Verka to register FIRs against the offenders”. He said raids would continue on the offenders in the future in order to nail the power theft cases. He urged the people to not to indulge in theft of electricity.
