Tarn Taran, December 15

Four robbers looted Rs 7,25,710 from the Naurangabad branch of Axis Bank, 8 km from here, on the Tarn Taran-Goindwal Sahib road this afternoon.

It was the third such incident in less than three months in this area. The first incident happened at the Jamarai branch of Punjab National Bank and the second one at the Ghurakwind branch of Axis Bank.

Despite the fact that the Jamarai incident was solved, three robbers are still at large. The bank robbery of Ghurkwind is yet to be solved.

The district police led by the SP (Operations) Tilak Raj, along with other officials, came to the spot to gather first-hand information regarding the incident.

Branch manager Pardeep Singh said the robbers came to the bank in a Ford Ikon car but its number was not visible. Three of the four masked robbers, armed with two pistols and a rifle, stormed into the branch.

Baldev Singh, the security guard at the bank, took shelter in a room when the robbers came.

The robbers then fired two gunshots, one at Rahul Sharma, a sales official and another at the CCTV camera screen. They then entered inside the cash counter and took away the cash.

The branch manager said Rs 7,25,710 was looted. The robbers also took away the mobile phone of Rahul Sharma. Experts were called to the spot to check the footage of the CCTV camera.

SSP Darshan Singh Mann said the incident was the handiwork of the same gang, which was responsible for the Ghurkwind bank loot incident.
