Robber caught, hunt on for accomplices

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested a robber, Roshan Singh, of Meharbanpura village. A revolver has been seized from his possession.

The police said Roshan along with Babbal, a resident of Gehri Mandi, Sabi of Partap Singh and several other unknown persons had formed a gang to rob people in Amritsar and adjoining areas at gunpoint. The police had got an information that Roshan was going to the Vallah cattle fair from Uthian village on a bike to conduct a reccee to rob cattle traders coming to the fair.

Following this, a naka was laid near Swaraj School located on Mehta road. On seeing the police team, he tried to escape but nabbed. A .32 bore country made revolver and three live rounds were seized.

A case under Sections 379, 411 of the IPC and 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against him.

DCP Amrik Singh Powar said further interrogation was under way to know the whereabouts of his accomplices. "Raids are being conducted to arrest Babbal and Sabi, who were absconding since his arrest. His interrogation can result in the solution of many robbery cases. More recoveries are likely to be made," he added.
