Amritsar, October 16

The court of an Additional Sessions Judge on Tuesday dismissed the revision petition of a Uttar Pradesh Congress leader Sandeep Tiwari, alias Pintoo, who was arrested by the anti-terrorist squad (ATS) of the Punjab Police in connection with the release of a notorious gangster by the UP special task force in September last year. Currently, he is out on bail.

Prema Tiwari, mother of Pintoo, had filed the petition in March after it was rejected by a lower court. She had demanded re-investigation into the case, alleging that he was arrested by the intelligence wing of the Punjab Police under a conspiracy.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ATS had already filed the challan in the court in the case. She had also approached Punjab DGP, who had marked a probe to the crime branch which is still under progress.

In September 2017, the ATS received the information about the arrest of gangster Gopi Ghanshampuria from Shahjahanpur by the UP STF, who was later released allegedly after Tiwari felicitated a deal for the same.

Besides Pintoo, the ATS had nabbed Ghanshampuria’s accomplices Randeep Singh, alias Rimple, a liquor contractor, who had given the money for his release besides Harjinder Singh Kohli and Amandeep Singh who were arrested from Uttar Pradesh along with Gurpreet Singh at that time.
