Family members of a person, who was crushed to death by a speeding tractor trailer near Gurdwara Shaheedan on October 10, have alleged negligence by the police in the case. The family alleged that the police did not respond to their complaint and filed a Daily Diary Report (DDR) three days after the person went missing.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar (45), a resident of Rajyan Wala Khooh. His body was found at a roadside near Gurdwara Shaheedan at 9.45 pm on October 10.
An eyewitness, Amar Singh, had stated at the C-Division police station that a speeding tractor trailer driver hit him and fled the spot along with the vehicle. The body of the deceased was sent to the Civil Hospital, where it was kept for 72 hours and then it was cremated.
Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased alleged that policemen at Islamabad police station did not respond to their complaint on time.
Rajesh Kumar, cousin brother of the victim, said, “My brother used to work as a cook. On the evening of October 10, he received a phone call and left his home. Till late evening, when Sanjeev Kumar did not return home, his family members reportedly visited the police station and informed the police.
“The munshi asked us to come with photographs. Next day, we visited the police station along with photographs but the police officials demanded two photographs more. After several visits, they filed a DDR,” said Rajesh Kumar.
“It was negligence on part of the police. They have to report the case on the same day and inform to the other police station. If the police took action on time, we could have got the dead body of the deceased,” he added.
Gurpreet Singh, SHO, Islamabad police station, said,“There was no delay. We have registered the DDR. But if there would be some negligence, we will take action against the person concerned.”
