Amritsar, December 16

Members of the Unemployed PTI, Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed) and Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed) Teachers’ Union, Punjab, on Sunday met State Education Minister OP Soni and demanded that post of physical education teachers should be filled. The teachers threatened that they would go on fast unto death post January 5 if their demands were not met.

They met Soni on Sunday to discuss their issues.

Keshav Kohli, president of the union, said, “For the last many years, these teachers are fighting for jobs. It is shameful that teachers are suffering in the state. How can a state progress, if teachers continue to be in pain? We have been asked to come on January 5 in Mohali for solution of our cause. 873 posts of physical education teachers are lying vacant in the state.”

“ We want to know the situation of our jobs. We will be sitting on fast unto death outside the residence of School Education Minister,” added Keshav Kohli.

Amanpreet Singh, Sandeep Singh, Rajini and Gurjit Kaur were among the prominent present. — TNS
