Refresher course in disaster mgmt at GND varsity ends

AMRITSAR: As many as 34 university and college teachers pertaining to a multiplicity of academic disciplines from various nooks and corners of the country participated in a three-week refresher course in disaster management (ID) concluded on Tuesday at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University.

As many as 34 university and college teachers pertaining to a multiplicity of academic disciplines from various nooks and corners of the country participated in a three-week refresher course in disaster management (ID) concluded on Tuesday at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University.

Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor, presided over the valedictory session. Prof Sandhu in his valedictory address shed light on another impending disaster which is looming large before our society in the form of fast declining moral, ethical values in the generations of today apart from the other natural and man-made disaster.

Expressing his deep concern over the fast pace of ‘moral degradation’, lack of appropriate work culture, he exhorted the teaching community to heed optimum attention to all these challenges, which are eating into the vitals of our society.

Prof Saroj Arora, department of botanical and environmental sciences and coordinator of the course, summarised the contents of the course. She counselled the participants to disseminate the skills, competence, expertise gained during the course to familiarise the people at large with the disaster management.

The participants of refresher course in disaster management expressed their deep gratitude to the entire team of the centre as well as the course coordinator and made a few fruitful suggestions.

Earlier, the chief guest was accorded a floral welcome by Prof Saroj Arora, department of botanical and environmental sciences, and Dr Mohan Kumar. The certificates were also given to the successful participants.
