Amritsar, October 20

The city railway station has been turned into a police cantonment with armed guards deployed at its every nook and corner. Passengers are missing as most of the trains have been either short terminated, short originated, diverted or cancelled.

A couple of trains, like Garib Rath and Amritsar-Mumbai, departed via Tarn Taran on Saturday. It took them 2.30 hour to reach Beas which, otherwise, they take 35 minutes to cover.

As a pre-emptive measure, the police presence was consolidated at the railway station to thwart any untoward incident in the wake of public anger against the Railways.

Scouts were seen managing a helpdesk at the railway station while senior officials were camping at the rest house, situated in the vicinity of the station.

Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha, accompanied by Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani and Northern Zone General Manager Vishwesh Chaubey met the injured at the hospitals and also visited the railway station.
