Amritsar, July 21

Acting on a tip-off, the police have booked a Rajasthan resident on the charge of spying.

According to the police, Rmakes Meena, a resident of Rajasthan, who is living in Attari town near the Indo-Pak border, is a Class IV employee of the Railways. The police have also confiscated his phone and recovered some pictures of the Attari railway station.

The police had received a tip-off that Rmakes used to click pictures of the Samjhauta express, Attari railway station and other important installations near the Indo-Pak border, besides making a video of meetings of officials.

“It has come to light that the suspect had gathered information regarding meetings of officials of different agencies at the Attari railway station. Following the tip-off, he was booked and will be arrested soon. The police have seized his phone,” said Amritsar (Rural) SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal.

The SSP added that it is yet to ascertain whether he had any links with Pakistan-based intelligence agencies or not. He said it was a matter of investigation why he was clicking pictures of the Samjhauta express, Attari railway station and other vital structures.

A case under Sections 3, 5 and 9 of the Official Secret Act, 1923, has been registered against him.
