Amritsar, February 19

A number of heads of government schools, computer teachers, coordinators of evaluation lectures among others were imparted training for the new online marking system to be introduced by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) from this session, here today. They were trained through EDUSAT labs at government schools.

Under the new system, the evaluators, after checking the answer sheets of students and awarding marks, will have to ensure that the marks are uploaded onto a mobile application of the PSEB. For this, the evaluators will get login identities (IDs). The app will have a record of the papers checked, including the number of errors made by the users.

Earlier, the evaluators had to send the list of marks to the PSEB head office in Mohali, following which the board used to declare the results. The online system will enable the board to speed up the process.

Mandeep Kaur, Principal, Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Mall road, said, “A training session was conducted at our school. It will provide a relief to teachers. The app has a unique feature of listing the mistakes committed by teachers.”

Dilbir Singh, associate coordinator at the school, said, “Nineteen teachers were present at the session. It is a new thing not only for us but also for the board. The training began today will conclude on February 21. The staff will be trained in various groups.”

This time, the PSEB has brought a number of changes, such as a new policy on examination centres, installation of CCTV cameras at the exam centres and announcement of results within 15 days among others.

Welcoming the move, president of the Democratic Teachers’ Front, Ashwini Awasthi said, “We must look at the positive side of the system. This method will ensure fairness in the examination and will save time. I am looking forward to get the training. Though there are staff members with no computer knowledge, they can manage it as computer teachers will be around.”

Rajeev Kumaria, principal, PBN Senior Secondary School, said, “This move will bring transparency in the entire system. There will be a proper record and students shall be benefited. Let’s see how it rolls out.”
