A property dealer, identified as Kishan Kumar, a resident of the walled city area, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance. The police have booked five persons for allegedly forcing him to take the extreme step.

Those booked include his partner PK, Happy, Raj Kumar, alias Raju, Rinku and Jaspal of the Sultanwind gate area. A case under Sections 306 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against them following statement of Rashmi Sharma, wife of the deceased.

In her complaint Rashmi stated to the Kotwali police that her husband was a property dealer and was in depression for the past two months. Rashmi said when she asked him about the reason Kishan told her that he was under extreme debt due to his habit of spending money on lotteries. He had borrowed money from several people and lost the entire amount in lottery. Kishan told Rashmi that now the people were demanding their money back. Rashmi said she tried to comfort him by saying that he could slowly return all his debt.

She said at 10.15 pm her husband returned home from outside. His condition was not well. Rashmi said he had consumed celphos tablets as he was disturbed due to continuous harassment at the hands of people. She rushed him to a private hospital where he died.

Investigating Officer ASI Balwinder Singh said the police handed over the body to the family after a post-mortem examination. He said investigation was under progress while no arrests had been made so far. Preliminary probe indicated that the deceased took the extreme due to monetary dispute, he added.
