Project for railway station’s facelift begins

Rajya Sabha MP Shwait Malik announced the beginning of the civil work for the overall development and expansion of the railway station with an investment of Rs 15.75 crore here today.

Addressing mediapersons after holding a meeting with railway officials, Malik, who is also a member of the parliamentary committee for the railways, said the time-bound development work would be finished within a year.

Railway officials present at the meeting were Station Director Amrit Singh, Divisional Engineer Harbans Singh, Assistant Divisional Signal and Telecom Engineer Rajesh Gupta and Assistant Traffic Manager Vipin Purohit.

Meanwhile, the work on the parking lot at the railway station was started. It will have five separate lanes for two wheelers, cars, autos, heavy vehicles and VIP vehicles. Three high-mast lights will also be installed to address security concerns.

LED lighting, beautiful landscaping, road furniture with benches, solar studs, cat eye reflectors and thermo plastic line will also be ensured. CCTV cameras at all six platforms and baggage scanners will be installed at a cost of Rs 6 crore.

Kota Stone on the platforms would be replaced with granite. LCDs and other electronic gadgets would be installed for informing the passengers about the arrival and departure of trains.

The ramshackle ticket-booking office at platform number one would be demolished and replaced with a modern one. The six-window ticket enclosure will also be overhauled and air cooled hall for night stay will be provided.

Three waiting rooms will come up and the enquiry window will be shifted at the entrance.

The present parcel building would also be demolished to replace it with three-storey building containing parcel room, seven retiring rooms, 25-bed dormitory.

Malik stated that the civil work for raising two more platforms had also commenced.
