Amritsar, May 21

The police are still clueless about the whereabouts of gangsters Gopi Ghanshampuri, Supreet Harry and his accomplices who had kidnapped an Ajnala-based doctor for ransom two days ago.

The doctor, Munish Kumar Sharma, was released only after the family paid Rs 7.5 lakh as ransom. The accused have demanded Rs 60 lakh more so the police have provided security cover to the family. The accused are said to be hiding in the border belt.

The police, including intelligence agencies, had launched a manhunt to arrest the gangsters. Ghanshampuria and Supreet Harry alias Harry Chatha are considered as accomplices of another notorious gangster, Vicky Gounder.

A preliminary probe revealed that during Dr Sharma’s abduction, they had two bags full of arms and ammunition as they were fully prepared to deal with the police in case of an encounter. The police have been scrutinising the CCTV footage of various toll plazas to get some clue.—TNS
