AAP workers today burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bhandari Bridge over the disqualification of 20 MLAs of the party in Delhi for holding “offices of profit”.

Suresh Kumar Sharma, president of the party’s district urban unit, said, “The government has reduced the Election Commission of India (ECI) to merely a political tool to harass dissidents. The President, strangely, too, has acted as a rubber stamp.”

He said, “Many other issues are pending with the President for his consideration for a long time but he did not waste any time in stamping the disqualification of AAP MLAs even on Sunday. In the recent times, chief parliamentary secretaries have been appointed in at least 13 states, including where the BJP is in power. But the BJP-led Central Government has taken action against the AAP’s Delhi government. The law should be same for all political parties.”

The AAP leaders stated that the Election Commission of India did not give a chance to 20 MLAs to present their case. “The 20 AAP MLAs holding CPS posts had not taken the benefit of a single rupee and were discharging their additional duties on the pay entitled for MLAs,” claimed Majha zone president Kuldeep Dhaliwal.

Dhaliwal said that as and when the elections for the 20 constituencies were being held, the AAP would win all of the seats again and give a befitting reply to the “cheap” politics being played by the BJP.
