Amritsar, December 10

The ongoing trade fair — Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) — has turned out to be a favourite outing for residents of the holy city. So far, one and a half lakh visitors have visited the fair that commenced on December 7. This is the 12th edition of the trade expo organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industries (PHDCCI) under the aegis of the Punjab government.

The visitors could be seen enjoying various games along with relishing a number of delicacies at the event. A special visit was paid by the children of a local NGO. The chamber authorities informed them about the fair as well as took them to some of the major stalls of the exhibitors.

Madhu Pillai, regional director of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, “The fair is being held to keep in view the changing times. We have adopted numerous changes which have been liked by the visitors as well as entrepreneurs. I am expecting more visitors on Sunday, the concluding day.”

People could be seen with their families holding shopping bags from one section to others. A number of women could be seen buying artificial jewellery, cosmetic items, home ware among other items.

Mauli, a city resident, said, “I am fond of items related to home décor, artificial jewellery and designer suits.”

Stalls of Jammu and Kashmir, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand were able to attract the visitors as their products of daily use were everyone’s demand.

“Obviously, more people will visit today as it is a weekly off for people. I had been planning for a weekend visit here along with my family. Anything new in the city calls for a weekend plan,” said Sahil, a banker.
