Pingalwara institute to train special educators

In order to compensate for a limited number of educational institutes imparting training to special educators for special children in the region, the All-India Pingalwara Charitable Society (regd), Amritsar, is all set to open an institute under the Bhagat Puran Singh Institute at their Manawala branch.

These courses will be free of cost to train people as special instructors. To begin with, the authorities are focusing on two diplomas, Diploma in Special Education and Diploma in Educating Hearing Impaired. Both these courses are affiliated with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

These courses will be available only for girls and they will be provided hands-on training with the inmates of Pingalwara. The authorities will be hiring specialized teachers to teach the students. The Pingalwara authorities have already employed a few teachers.

The minimum qualification to get admission to these diploma courses is plus two. The courses will begin within a few months. Dr Inderjit Kaur, president, All-India Pingalwara Charitable Society, said, “There are hardly any efforts from the government’s side. We are trying our level best to have the best trainers for such kids. They will get the best guidance here. ”

The institute is not only trying to provide education, special children of the society have made their mark in the 20 state Special Olympics held at Patiala recently. The children managed to grab 60 medals in various athletic events. They played in two divisions’ lower ability and higher ability. The students got 20 golds, 22 silvers and 18 bronze medals, taking the tally to sixty. The students were seen in a jubilant mood, showing their achievements to their teachers.
