People of all religions celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr

Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated in the city with enthusiasm and zeal. People of all religions joined the Muslims at Jama Masjid, Hall Bazaar, to mark the end of the holy month. They participated in the ‘namaz’ (prayer) and hugged one another. Maulana Hamid Hasan Kasmi greeted and addressed the gathering on the occasion.

Amir, a 10-year-old said, “It is a great day to enjoy various delicacies and celebrations.”

Rehman, a local trader, said, “My whole family gathered to mark the day. Several dishes were prepared and I invited our Hindu and Muslim friends to celebrate the day.”

Surinder Singh, a local resident, who attended prayers at the mosque, said, “Eid is a festival that is for all, be it a Muslim, a Hindu or a Christian. I kept on hugging my Muslim friends throughout the day.”

Meanwhile, Education Minister OP Soni visited Jama Maszid. “It is a festival of love. I am happy that members of all communities hugged one another. We should keep this spirit of brotherhood,” he added.

The city has over two lakh Muslim population. After the Partition of Punjab, local Muslims moved to Pakistan. In the last couple of decades, a large number of Muslim migrants have made the city their residence, establishing and renovating several mosques.
