Amritsar: On a call by Punjab Pensioners Confederation and Sanjha Mulazam Manch, the Pensioners Welfare Association has announced that its members would take part in the protest at Mukerian, where the bypoll for the Mukerian Assembly seat will be held on October 21. Association patron Darshan Singh Goraya said the protesters would expose the government, its false promises and lopsided policies. They also held a protest against the state government for not implementing their long accepted demands. Association leaders Darshan Singh, Sukhdev Singh Pannu demanded that the government should release three installments of dearness allowance, implement pay commission, besides hike in medical allowance. One booked for passport fraud

Amritsar: The police have booked Amrik Singh of Bandala village for allegedly preparing two fake passports. The case has been registered following a complaint submitted by Senior Superintendent of Regional Passport Office, Jalandhar. A probe was conducted by the police and after obtaining legal opinion from the District Attorney, the police registered a case under Section 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 177, 199 and 200 of the IPC and Section 12 of the passport Act. No arrest has been made so far. TNS

Firing in Chheana Bidhi Chand 

Amritsar: A firing incident was reported in Cheena Bidhi Chand village four days ago.  Harbans Singh, a resident of the village, in his complaint to the police alleged that he was going to bed, when four unidentified armed men entered his house and fired in the air. He managed to escape himself by running into a room of the house. The Sarai Amant Khan police have registered a case under Sections 336 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
