Patti Bar Assn prez among 30 booked

The police have booked 30 persons, including the president of the Patti Bar Association and seven other members, in a case in which two groups clashed at Judicial Courts Complex in Patti, 25 km from here, around two weeks ago.

The police said the case was registered yesterday. The reason behind the clash is said to be some issues over the election of the Patti Bar Association.

Advocate Faqir Singh, who is also a member of the Bar Association, and his client Ajmer Singh, a resident of Gazal village, were injured in the clash.

Those booked by the police are Pritam Singh Bhullar, president of the Patti Bar Association; Surinderpal Singh Ghariala; Ranjit Singh, his brother Jasbir Singh, father Gurpartap Singh; Ranbir Singh, Shivjeet Singh and PP Diwan, all are members of the Bar Association; Lal Singh; Jeetpal Singh; Kanwaljit Singh and Tarsem Singh, besides 18 unidentified persons.

In his complaint, Faqir Singh told the police that the accused attacked him when he was discussing a matter with his client Ajmer Singh in his chamber.

He said the accused threw his files and his client received injuries when he came to his rescue. He said the turban of his client was also removed in the incident.

The police had been allegedly dilly-delaying to lodge a case in this regard but when lawyers threatened boycott work, they registered the case.

DSP, Patti, Sohan Singh said a case under Sections 452, 427, 323, 295, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC had been registered against the accused. He said no arrest had been made so far. The DSP added that further proceeding would be initiated after investigating the case.
