With the intense cold wave gripping the city after the recent spell of showers, the patients admitted to various wards of Government Medical College hospital are troubled due to the broken window glasses.

A visit to the hospital revealed that attendants had to make makeshift arrangements, such as pasting newspapers, hanging bed sheets and cardboards on broken window glasses, to prevent themselves from cold. Patients and their attendants complained that such makeshift arrangements were insufficient to prevent themselves from the chill.

Patients said they had to use extra covers to keep them warm. “No matter how many quilts or blankets you use, but it you are lying in the open these are of no comfort,” said a patient who did not want his name published.

The authorities concerend should have fixed the broken windows so that patients and their attendants could feel comfortable. They said that they were at the receiving end since the beginning of the rain.

Further, as the wards are large in size and don’t have doors on the side of the corridors, the cold is felt more here than in small rooms. The patients said that the hospital authorities must look into the problems being faced by them.

Meanwhile, hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Surinder Pal said that repair work at the hospital was taken up in routine. “The work is under way. We will expedite the work and complete it on priority,” he added.
