The General Post Office will open a separate Passport Sewa Kendra for submission of passport applications to facilitate more applicants. According to information, the External Affairs Ministry has proposed to open a Post Office Passport Sewa Kendra (POPSK) in the city.

The objective of the ministry is to accommodate the maximum passport applicants. Apart from the city, the External Affairs Ministry will also set another Post Office Passport Sew Kendra at Tarn Taran.

Krishan Kumar, regional passport officer, said, “The ministry has decided to set up one Passport Sewa Kendra or POPSK within a radius of 50 km. For this purpose, the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the Postal Department has already opened 50 POPSKs in the country, which are now fully operational. Three POPSKs are proposed to be opened at Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur. The local post office will provide us space for the office and we will deploy our staff.”

Passport officials said in this calendar year, they had organised 15 passport melas to cope with the problem of delay in getting appointments by applicants and this would continue in future also. In the melas, 900 appointments are given to facilitate the public.

Besides, walk-in facilities are given to the physically challenged, senior citizens and minors below 10 years on a daily basis in the general public interest.
