Amritsar, December 5

Unidentified miscreants took away over 450 bags of wheat from a godown of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) here on Tuesday night.

Sanjiv Nirwal, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, told the police that seven watchmen were deputed at seven sheds of the godown at Bhangwa village. The godown has been given to the FCI on rent in which wheat and rice have been stored.

He said at 12.30 am, around 15 to 20 persons entered the premises of the godown by jumping over the wall. “The suspects tied all watchmen with a rope and locked them in a room. Later, they broke open the locks of the main gate and loaded more than 450 bags of wheat on a truck and fled away,” he added.

Nirwal said thereafter, the watchmen managed to come out of the room and approached the police around 3.30 am.

A case under Section 395 of the IPC has been registered in this regard. The police said an investigation into the incident was on.

Amritsar SSP (Rural) Parampal Singh said that they were looking for the details of history-sheeters, who recently came out of jail on bail. He said the suspects would be arrested soon.
