Amritsar, December 11

A “Four Week General Orientation Programme-107” concluded at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) of Guru Nanak Dev University(GNDU) on Tuesday.

As many as 40 university and college teachers pertaining to heterogeneity of disciplines from Punjab and far flung states of the country participated in it. Prof Subodh Kumar, former dean, academic affairs, GNDU, Amritsar presided over the valedictory session. Subodh Kumar in his valedictory address shared with the participants the genesis of orientation programmes, refresher courses in the domain of higher education in the country, which were envisaged by the University Grants Commission.

“The challenges before the teaching fraternity keep on changing in consonance with the requirements of the society with the passage of time,” he opined. Expressing his deep concern at the dwindling enrolment of students in higher education across the country, he stressed on the dire need of stemming the exodus of the younger generation to other countries for higher education, thereby causing a massive loss of foreign exchange in addition to the brain drain.

Prof Adarsh Pal Vig, director of the centre, expressed his profound pleasure over the successful completion of the programme and felicitated the participants on the occasion. The participants of the programme expressed their deep gratitude to the entire team (teaching and non-teaching) of the HRDC for the hassle-free organisation of the course and made a few constructive comments.
