Amritsar: The District Health Department organised a training-cum-orientation camp on leprosy for its employees at Urban Primary Health Centre, Chehharta, here on Tuesday. District Leprosy Officer Dr Jyotika Kalsi said the purpose of the camp was to make employees aware of medical needs of the leprosy patients. She said the employees were educated about the symptoms of the disease and they had been taught to identify such patients and send them to the Civil Hospital for further diagnosis. Health officials said early diagnosis of leprosy could save patients from permanent physical disability. TNS

Couple booked for fraud 

A couple from the Sultanwind area has been booked on fraud charge. The accused has been identified as Gurdeep Singh and Ranjit Kaur, both residents of New Kot Atma Ram. In his complaint, Harpal Singh, who is a goldsmith, told the police that the accused bought 1.44 kg of gold from him. He said the cheques given by the couple for the payment of the gold were bounced. Harpal said the couple duped him of Rs 21,99, 850. A case under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC has been registered against the accused. TNS

Six booked for deception 

The police have booked six persons for duping the owner of a chemical firm of Rs 26 Lakh. The accused have been identified as Suresh Garg, Rakesh Garg, Kaushal Garg, Vikas, Ajay Chaudary and Sunil Girdhar from Anand Tax India, Brahman Majra, Panipat. Complainant Sanjiv Vij, who is a supplier of chemicals, told the police that the accused duped him of Rs 26 Lakhs by not giving the payment of chemicals supplied to them. The police have registered a case under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC. TNS
