Amritsar, December 19

Lok Sabha member Gurjeet Singh Aujla today stated that online booking for Amritsar-Nanded-Mumbai flight from Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport had started from Tuesday.

The new direct flight connecting the two holy cities of Sikhs would start its operations from December 23. Aujla said he met officials of the Director General Civil Aviation office in Delhi today. The Air India had conducted a survey last month to check the feasibility of the flight.

The new flight also seems to have initiated the race for credit among politicians as Rajya Sabha member and BJP leader Shwait Malik, in a press release issued today thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the “early New Year gift” for Amritsar.

Malik also said ever since he became Rajya Sabha member, Amritsar Airport was on the top of his agenda. “The airport was under a huge conspiracy during the Congress- led government where all the profitable flights were shifted to Delhi to benefit the airport there, because of which Amritsar airport went into huge losses, but ever since he took over as Member of Parliament and due to the diligent efforts of the Modi-led government, this airport has been uplifted and losses have come down to 25 crores,” the release said.

Meanwhile, Amritsar Vikas Manch, an NGO convassing in favour of better air connectivity for many years has welcomed the decision of the Air India to start the flight.
