NRI’s book helps kids learn about Sikhism

Artika Aurora Bakshi, an NRI based in Sri Lanka, has come up with a unique story-cum-activity book (My Little Sikh Handbook) to introduce principles of Sikhism to children.

Bakshi says she wants kids across the globe to connect with their roots, encourage interaction between parents and kids on their value system, origin and Sikhism. The book was released in September 2018. Currently, she is working on her next book on similar lines.

The book, meant for 5 to 7 age group, has illustrations on Sikh Gurus, meaning of ‘langar’, establishment of Khalsa Panth, meaning of ‘seva’, ‘amrit’, Singh, ‘karah prasad’, etc. Bakshi, an author and teacher in Sri Lanka, said, “It is an activity-based book focused on teaching kids about Sikhism.” The book, through two characters — Himmat and Nanki, introduces the reader to the principles of Sikhism, relevance of the holy city, Guru Granth Sahib, Nishan Sahib, Miri Piri, Gurdawara Bangla Sahib and others.
