The Amritsar rural police today claimed to have arrested a notorious gangster Malkiat Singh alias Nawab of infamous Harry Chatha Gang of Batala along with sophisticated weapon and ammunition. The police also arrested his accomplice Bikramjit Singh alias Bikka of Raipur Khurd village

While confirming the arrests, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, chief of the Amritsar rural police, said the CIA staff received specific input that some notorious gangsters were coming towards Mehta side from the Ghuman-Batala road for committing some serious crime. He said following the lead a naka was put up at the Ghuman-Mehta road under the supervision of SP (detective,) Gursewak Singh Brar.

The police team tried to intercept a motorcycle at the naka. Seeing the police party the riders tried to flee after firing on personnel manning the naka. The police team immediately cordoned off the area and caught the gangsters. Officials recovered a sophisticated pistol, besides heavy ammunition from Nawab.

As per preliminary interrogation, Nawab is a member of infamous criminal “Harry Chatha Gang” of Batala. He along with Davinder Shooter killed rival gang member Dilbag alias Lamma Patti in Taran Taran.

The gang was also involved in firing at the city police team a few months ago when they had come to meet their accomplices identified as ‘Ganja’, who was admitted to a hospital. They fired at the police party and fled from the spot.

“Harry Chatha of Batala is a known dreaded criminal of the Majha region. He escaped from the Batala police one and half years ago and was on the run since then. Nawab’s interrogation will help the police track his accomplices,” added the SSP.
