Amritsar, October 22

In the wake of the tragic train accident in Amritsar, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has announced that no fire cracker will be burnt to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Ram Das on October 26. However, normal lighting and nagar kirtan on the eve of the Parkash Purb will be taken out as per the schedule.

Apart from this, the programme of lighting the prominent buildings of holy city too has been deferred.

The SGPC had chalked out a programme of setting up lights at the railway station, bus stand, the entrance gates of the city, elevated roads on the bypass and the office of the DC and other government buildings during the occasion.

SGPC chief secretary Dr Roop Singh said these programmes had been cancelled as a mark of respect to the departed souls who met tragic train accident.

“We will light up the Golden Temple and other gurdwaras with no special pomp and show on the Parkash Purb. The devotees will be allowed to light up earthen lamps in the shrine. Other gurmat programmes, amrit sanchar, honouring the 52 traditional craftsmen, katha programmes will be held as per the schedule,” he said.
