Amritsar, December 1

Punjabi Samvaad, a cultural NGO, which have been working for women and girl child in the city for 13 years, organised its annual programme to support the education of poor students.

Jyoti Bawa, wife of artiste Amit Bawa, in whose memory the event is held every year, said the funds collected through the cultural event were spent on supporting the education of poor children.

“We work with the families who have more than two girls. We work to support their needs and education for their overall development. Most of these families have already developed a favourable attitude towards the girl child and they do not think them as a liability,” she added.

“We have also been working with them to create awareness about issues such as rape, eve-teasing and women’s rights,” she added. In the evening, musical and drama performances were held. — TNS
