The Dilbir Foundation, a city-based NGO, is all set to reintroduce its organic winter food court at Sunday and Wednesday markets.
An organic market was held on Sunday at the District Shopping Complex, Ranjit Avenue. Farmers in such markets sell their fresh farm products, like vegetables, fruits, milk, grain, and pulses. The market is open from 11 am to 4 pm. Initially, it was scheduled only for Sundays but owing to good response, Wednesday was also added to its schedule. Visitors appreciate the organic stuff in the city.
Gunbir Singh, chairman, Dilbir Foundation, said, “In 2018, we will reintroduce our organic winter food courts. The food court will serve fresh ‘saag’. The traditional Punjabi delicacy — makki ki roti and saag — will be served with homemade white butter. Apart from this, chaas, kesaar badam and milk will also be provided. The winter food court will commence from January 3 and it will be held twice a week.”
The winter food court will have cold pressed oil, natural tea, jam, marmalade and chutney for sale. The organic markets on Sundays and Wednesdays is an initiative to promote organic farming, show farmers the sustainability of their produce and attract residents to eat healthy organic stuff. Besides, volunteers from the foundation are also delivering the fresh produce.
“We have got good response from city residents. We want to promote the consumption of eating fresh farm produce,” he added.
