Amritsar, August 7

Activists of the Communist Party of India(CPI) on Wednesday burnt an effigy of the Central government in protest against the removal of special status of Jammu and Kashmir. They protested against turning it into union territories near Gurwali village on Tarn Taran road.

Lakhbir Singh Nizampura, district secretary of the party, said the BJP had violated the constitution by scrapping Article 370. He said the people of state had been deceived and every right minded citizen of the country was criticising the move. Nizampura said the party criticised the oppressive policies of the BJP-led Central government and demanded immediate restoration of the Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
