Woman ends life by hanging from ceiling fan

AMRITSAR: A city resident, identified as Sonia of Gali Ravidasia, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan on Monday.

A city resident, identified as Sonia of Gali Ravidasia, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan on Monday. The reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained. The police have initiated action under the criminal procedure code in this connection, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) JS Walia.

He said the body was sent for postmortem examination and the police were waiting for the autopsy report before taking further action.

Veena, mother of the deceased, said her daughter was upset for the past few days. She was married, had two daughters and had been residing with her. She said her husband had gone to Himachal Pradesh for work. After sending her son to work, she went to market for bringing ration. Upon returning, she found Sonia hanging from a ceiling fan. She raised the alarm and by the time she was brought down, she had died.
