A former cop, identified as Dharampal, has lost Rs 50,000 to a swindler who tricked the victim into giving details of his ATM card and later transferred money from his bank account.

In his complaint to the Chheharta police, he stated that he had a savings account with the State Bank of India in which his pension is credited.

He said that he received a call from a number (6291724820) and the unknown caller informed him that his ATM card had been blocked. The swindler further informed him that he had sent a four-digit number to him, and tricked him into revealing that one-time password.

The complainant said that when he went to his bank branch to withdraw money, he came to know that Rs 49,999 had been debited from his account.

The police have registered a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66-C of the Information Technology Act against the unidentified person.
